Press Release
The Coltrane suite and Other Impressions”.

Adriano Clemente
“Thank you Adriano for inviting me to play your music in tribute to Mr Coltrane. This recording brought out another side of John. You and the musicians made it easy for me to express myself, I’m sure it will inspire the jazz community. Great writing.”
David Murray, 23 December 22
“I had the pleasure to be involved in a interesting and fascinating recording project that was a tribute to John Coltrane. This project included several wonderful musicians from Rome along with Tenor Saxophonist David Murray from the United States. The creator of this project is Adriano Clemente, who is a extraordinary musician in his own right. He composed and arranged all of the music. For me it was a great honour to be involved in the recording of this music. The way that Adriano composed and arranged the music (serious with some complexity but light and flowing at the same time)was not an easy task. As a drummer, that afforded me tremendous space and freedom to express myself wholeheartedly and not just as a time keeper. Adriano was also very open to suggestions, which was a good sign. He showed that he wasn’t locked into a particular view of how everything should be. I felt like a co/creator along side the wonderful cast of musicians that Adriano had brought together to honor John Coltrane. I met Adriano several years ago when he came to a concert I was doing with William Parker in Florence. When he introduced himself, I recognised his name not as a musician but as the translator of many books on Tibetan Buddhism. I was astounded… I thought here I am meeting Adriano Clemente at a concert that I am doing. Adriano is a scholar and translator of Tibetan Language. For years I had been reading many of his translations regarding a topic which has captivated me for many years. So I was an admirer of his long before meeting him and knowing anything about his musical abilities. Being involved in the Coltrane project was a joy from the musical perspective as well as fostering a deeper friendship with Adriano. It was my first time playing with these Italian musicians but the vibe and feeling was as if we had been playing together for years. The hospitality, joy and camaraderie that the musicians showed towards one another speaks for itself. When you have the right recipe and a good chef you are bound to have a fabulous meal. Thank you Adriano.”
